Variety Pack #11

by Jeremy Samples

Stunt drivers and practical jokers…squirrel humor…mother owl…largest mouth on earth…earthrise…chile pepper fable…the blue smoke thing…the washing of feet…low self-esteem and materialism…and more.

Beware the practical jokers with access to a stunt driver. The victim’s reactions are classic. I might never ride in car again. Ever.

Feeling squirrely? Go ahead, make my day.

This video introduces us to a squirrel who has learned to play dead. The result: confusion and hilarity.

Mother owl.

The largest mouth on earth. (Be sure to check out the second video—the one about the whales “fishing” together. Amazing.)

Earthrise (in HD).

Man, I don’t even know what to say to this. I just sat in my office and laughed. Unbelievable. Okay, just one more. Just wow.

This sportscaster subscribes to the “Eat Chile Pepper first, ask questions later” philosophy of life. Not good. (Favorite exchange: How long does this last? Five or six hours. Seriously? Seriously.)

I found this post over at Think Christian interesting. It is a discussion of an image commissioned by Heavenly Sanctuary portraying Jesus washing Osama Bin Laden’s feet. Along with the picture, there are captions like “Jesus—still too radical?” The whole things sort of makes me uneasy, but maybe that’s not a bad thing. Thoughts?

Just thought this was weird and interesting.

Apparently, a new scientific study has found that low self-esteem and materialism go hand in hand. What was it Jesus said about treasures?

The Internet Monk on Southern Baptists, Missouri, and alcohol. Some interesting stuff here. Check it out.

—What is a “Variety Pack”? It’s a collection of links I thought you might find useful and entertaining. I’ll update the links once a week or so. The links are intended to help groups learn, do Bible study, provide fodder for discussion, keep up with some of the happenings around the web, or just make you laugh. I’ll let you decide which links are which. I have tried to verify that these sites are safe and working. If you find any links that aren’t safe or active, let us know and we’ll delete or fix them.
